Material Overview
Banana fibre is a regenerative plant-based textile derived from agricultural waste — the banana pseudostem left after fruit harvest. Instead of being burned or discarded, the stem is mechanically extracted to create strong, breathable natural fibres.
At TagGTH LTD, our banana fibre fabrics are responsibly sourced, low-impact processed, and digitally traceable through EcoTrace™ — providing verified transparency from farm to fabric.
Origin: Smallholder farms, South India
Crop Type: Banana pseudostem (post-harvest waste)
Water Use: Rain-fed agriculture
Pesticides: Minimal / none
Soil Impact: Regenerative biomass recycling
Banana plants naturally regenerate quickly, making this fibre one of the lowest land-impact textile sources.
Method: Mechanical decortication
Chemicals Used: None
Water Usage: Low
Waste Output: Fully biodegradable
Fibres are separated from the pseudostem using mechanical scraping, washed naturally, sun-dried, and bundled without chemical treatment.
Spinning Type: Low-energy ring spinning
